Dear readers,
First off, a huge thank you to everyone who’s been supporting this Substack, especially those of you on paid subscriptions. You’re the reason these slightly Hitchens-esque rants keep finding a home.
Now, let’s talk turkey. The average Substack subscription out there is hovering around $9 to $11 CAD a month.
I’ve kept mine at a humble $6 for quite a while, but the time has come for a slight bump: we’re moving to $8 CAD. I know that’s about a 33% increase, and I genuinely hope it doesn’t cause any hardship.
To soften the blow, I’ll be offering a discount on annual subscriptions. Instead of $96 a year, it’ll be $80. And if anyone signs up for a full year and later finds my “freedom to offend” a bit too freewheeling, I’ll happily refund a prorated amount. Monthly subscriptions are a bit trickier to prorate, but we’ll make sure everyone’s treated fairly.
Just a note: this Substack is actually ranked in the top 1–1.5% on the platform — out of 17,000 writers, I’ve landed anywhere from the top 100 to top 10, especially in humour and sometimes world politics. I work hard on this — as everyone says, but I truly do — and I’m grateful for your support.
And yes, if anyone genuinely can’t afford the new price and still wants to read, just reach out. I’m not here to play financial gatekeeper. Thanks again for sticking around, and let’s keep the conversation going!

I get that; I lost my job as well, so am not ready to subscribe. Here's hopes that will change soon for both of us.
Best value around for superb writing. No quibbles here.
