Dear Substack,
Your sign-in method is 2001. You must use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) or Two-Step Verification via SMS Verification.
People use phones, not laptops.
You need to give five free monthly essays per person like magazines do.
You need to sell microcredits so people can price their work at a price that optimizes gross revenue. Your freemium model doesn’t work unless you get huge and get a sponsor. Your floor is too expensive; it’s $7 Canadian and too high.
People could pay to read single essays if they had microcredits and decent indexing.
You need to improve your search; it’s horrible.
You need to align yourself with academia, secondary and post-secondary.
You could do so much more and be bigger if you didn’t keep doing dumb things.
You need to index your essays or develop a code where people can sell, index it or use some AI super machine to auto-scan everyone’s paper and classify it. Though AI has no sense of humor
You need to market the global brand; most people think Substack is the foundation of the main stack on the bread aisle.
This is basic stuff; the marketing department at Substack is not doing a good job.
Re-stack if you agree.
You must stop only caring about the big branded media stars that move into SS and start earnestly trying to develop writers with weaker brand names. You might find some of them are better than your big names.
