I have never met Ramadan. I had never even heard of him until he was described as an aspiring antisemite and became the subject of complaints brought to journalist John Ivison’s attention. I later learned that Ramadan and his friend, Melanie Spence-Ariemma, the head of the University of Guelph-Humber, had conspired to get me fired. They succeeded.
I was fired partly for complaining about the posts shown here—a small sample of what I consider Ramadan’s antisemitism and dangerous hate propaganda. My complaints were labelled “reprisal.” Yet the HRTO said firing me was reprisal.
Ramadan also bragged to students that he would get thousands of his extremist friends to write in demanding my dismissal. He followed through.
The University of Guelph and Humber College knew about these posts. They also knew about posts by another faculty member, Greg Shupack, who celebrated October 7. I have the ‘sent’ receipts. They cannot claim they were never told.
They did nothing about the material I reported. Instead, they fired the person protesting it.
This scandal is still unfolding. Seven lawyers—I have lost count—are fighting me at the Labour Board. My union is supposed to provide my legal representation. But OPSEU Local 562 told me it would refuse to represent me because of my support for Israel. As I understand the rules governing my case, I am not entitled to separate legal representation.
The institutions have their lawyers. My union has refused to represent me. And I am left fighting a dismissal that followed my complaints about material the institutions knew about and failed to address.
Everyone thinks that I have some legal options, that there is something I can do other than publicize the truth and present evidence. But there isn’t really anything; the OLRB refuses (without saying it, just by their action) to hold a hearing, the Vice Chair is a former employee of the organization I am taking to the OLRB, and she has a long history of supporting antisemitic statements, and I am not willing to risk my entire financial future on fighting three organizations with hundreds of millions in revenue and unlimited means in superior court.
Your situation is like something out of a Franz Kafka novel, maddening to hear and worse for you. But it has allowed you the outlet of creating one amazing essay after another, and share with subscribers and passengers on substack. Hard to believe Canada doesn't provide a legal outlet for redress of grievances, while in the States folk can file almost frivilous lawsuits one after another, and your situation screams out injustice and substance.
